Marinette County Reads

Ever wondered what would happen if everyone in the same county read the same book?

Find out in February 2012 with the Marinette County Reads initiative, sponsored by the Marinette County Consolidated Library Services.

What is Marinette County Reads? Marinette County Reads is a reading initiative sponsored by the Marinette County Consolodated Library Services. We hope to encourage everyone in Marinette County to read the same book during the month of February and come together to talk about it.

What's the book? In 2011, Marinette County library users voted to read Coop by Michael Perry for the 2012 Marinette County Reads initiative. Reserve your copy on InfoSoup or pick one up at a local retailer.

Let's talk about it! After you've read Coop, you may be interested in talking about it with family, friends, or strangers. If you like discussion groups, please consider participating in a book discussion group. If you would rather stay closer to home, share your book likes, dislikes, and reactions with a family member or co-worker. If your group needs a little prompting, consider using questions from Madison Public Library's discussion list to get the conversation started.

Take it to the next level. Has Coop inspired you to take up a garden in the spring, raising chickens, or starting a small farm of your own? Or maybe it has stirred farmlife memories from your childhood? Come to the accompanying programs across Marinette County to keep the conversation going. Find events at each Marinette County public library.

Need more of an incentive? In addition to crossing off another book from your "to read" list, all those who have read and discussed Coop with at least one other person will be eligible to enter drawings for prizes. Contact your local Marinette County public library for more information.

Meet the author! On March 8, 2012, at 6:30 PM, Michael Perry will be at the Stephenson Public Library in Marinette. At this live presentation, Perry will discuss Coop (including unpublished tales) and answer audience questions. Full of humor in the style of The Clodhopper Monologues, Perry is sure to entertain. A reception provided by the Friends of the Stephenson Public Library will follow the presentation.
